Brighton International Animation Festival 2026 (BIAF 6th Edition)
The Brighton International Animation Festival returns for its sixth edition as a three-day international celebration of animation set on the sunny coast of Brighton. Founded in 2021 by Kate Jessop, BIAF is a BAFTA-qualifying not-for-profit festival run by animators for everyone, embracing international partnerships and a global perspective. The 2026 edition features curated and competition film programmes showcasing all forms and genres of animation including documentary, experimental, narrative, music video, and more, with entries welcomed from animators worldwide and emerging student filmmakers. The festival awards prizes in multiple categories including Best International, Best UK, Best Student, and Best AR (augmented reality).
Beyond film screenings, BIAF 2026 offers hands-on animation workshops teaching various animation techniques, industry talks from leading animation studios and creators, and an interactive AR (augmented reality) exhibition celebrating a featured theme. Previous editions have showcased retrospectives of acclaimed animators including Joanna Quinn and historic screenings such as the 70th anniversary of the classic feature "Animal Farm." The festival also features the Festivus networking meetup, creating opportunities for animators and creatives to connect with industry professionals. All films are subtitled for deaf and hard of hearing accessibility, with BSL (British Sign Language) interpreters present at all events, and carers' tickets available for visitors with access needs.
The festival maintains its commitment to inclusivity through a dedicated Queer programme celebrating LGBTQ+ animation and emerging artist showcases. Tickets will go on sale approximately one month before the festival when the full programme is released. The 2026 edition promises to be an inspiring hub for animation lovers of all abilities, celebrating the diversity of animated storytelling and fostering community connections within the global animation industry.
