About This Event
The most historic and longest-running open water swim race in the UK, celebrating its 90th anniversary in 2026. This iconic 1-kilometre swim is hosted by England's oldest swimming club, Brighton Swimming Club, with safety support provided by Blue Response. Swimmers start from the beach adjacent to the derelict West Pier and finish at the Palace Pier, navigating between marked kayak and canoe lines. The race is open to swimmers aged 14+ (under 18s must be Swim England registered club members with adult accompaniment), with categories for independent swimmers and club competitors. All swimmers receive electronic timing chips, numbered swim caps, race medals, and post-race refreshments. The event supports local charities and is held under BLDSA (British Long Distance Swimming Association) regulations. A backup date of 5 September 2026 is available in case of adverse weather conditions.
